University Girl Magazine

Throughout my time at Syracuse University, I worked in a variety of positions at University Girl Magazine and was able to explore my skills in writing, editing, and merchandise graphic design.

For the Spring 2022 semester, I worked as a staff writer for the digital UGirl website and had a bylined article published in the Spring 2022 print edition.

In Fall 2022, I worked as a News Editor, responsible for approving pitches for the News Section, and editing stories for digital publishing.

In Spring 2023 and Fall 2023, I joined the executive board as Merchandising Director. In my position, I worked on my developing skills in Adobe InDesign to design, finalize, and distribute University Girl Merchandise to staff members. In Spring 2023, I was also bylined in the print edition of the magazine.

The NewsHouse

TheNewsHouse.com is a multimedia news site, run by students and faculty of the Newhouse School. In my sophomore year reporting class, I worked with the NewsHouse to develop and publish an enterprise story. In my senior year capstone, MND505, I worked as a digital producer and contributor for The NewsHouse, practicing digital skills needed for the media industry including reporting, social media content creation, and google analytics reports.

Below is my digitally published enterprise story, reporting on the emotional impact of the reversal of Roe v. Wade on women. In my reporting, I aimed to take a different angle, with a focus on mental and emotional health. The article features in-depth interviews with Meredith Ouderkirk, manager of Community and Public Affairs at Planned Parenthood Syracuse, and an SU student who has experienced the fallout of the reversal of Roe v. Wade in both the north and the south of the United States.

Girl in Florence

In the Summer of 2023, I studied abroad in Florence, Italy through the Syracuse University summer abroad program. While abroad, I participated in an internship. I was interviewed and selected as a Writing Intern for Girl in Florence, a blog created by Georgette Jupe who studied abroad in Florence in 2005, relocated there, and began a blog to write about her life in Italy. The blog serves as a guide to travelers, highlighting local people, locations, experiences, and stories.

Throughout my internship, I worked under Georgette, writing articles weekly as I explored the city searching for stories. Each week I pitched, interviewed, wrote drafts, edited, and produced social media for the website.
